Ewan has over 18 years experience in racing sports. 5 years of which he raced Cross Country Mountain Bikes eventually reaching UCI World Cup level where he represented the UK in several European rounds. Latterly he has turned to Circuit Racing where he has been No.1 mechanic running a Praga R1T in the UK Praga Cup 2022 for IDOLA Motorsport. This is backed up by over 12 years experience as a milling machinist gaining a vast knowledge of working with different materials.
In the future Ewan would like to gain experience at events such as the Dakar Rally and The 24h of Le Mans.
As a Junior rider Ewan competed in races spanning across Europe, working his way up the ranks in cross country mountain biking. Winning the Scottish championship and reaching world cup level supported by British Cycling were the highlights of his MTB racing career.
Ewan also competed in more testing events like the Strathpuffer 24hr on several occasions.
From his teens Ewan has worked in the cycling industry as a mechanic working on high performance mountain bikes, this included running and servicing his own bike whilst racing. He is experienced in diagnosing faults on all components of the bike including hydraulic braking systems, gear systems and suspension units.
Whilst building bikes for clients over the last 15 years and still an active high performance builder, In 2018 Ewan converted his own bike to take a frame mounted 12 speed gearbox manufactured by Pinion GmbH. This was featured on Global Mountain Bike Network's YouTube channel and awarded with top modification of the year 2019.
With a passion for making things better wherever possible and seeking to make minimal gains in order to win. Ewan designed and created Descent master, A Core and upper body strength product that targets key areas of the body used in gravity focused mountain biking giving riders the chance to expand their limits. The patented product was awarded Collaboration of the year with Napier University at the Scottish mountain bike awards 2018. The collaboration involved testing of the product using state of the art laboratory equipment.
Having worked as a milling machinist for 13 years+ in the aerospace and automotive industry, Ewan has gathered a vast range of skills and knowledge in mechanical engineering. Experience includes working with and machining a wide range of different materials such as Aluminum alloys, a wide variety of steels and titanium alloys. Throughout his time in the industry he has also turned his hand to working on hydraulics and electrical/ electronics systems when required.
Lately Ewan has turned to motorsport. Working with VR Motorsport and Idola Motorsport who have been running several Praga R1T's in the 2021 Britcar endurance series. His experience includes operating as No.1 mechanic / car controller whilst covering all aspect of keeping the cars mechanically sound and ready to race. Always having a project on the go, Ewan has gained personal experience in complex procedures such as rebuilding engines and full 'from the ground-up' rebuilds.
